Why do I have buyer’s remorse?

Our relationship with money is complicated. And the emotions around money are often quite volatile.

Having money is satisfying and spending can be enjoyable but often in opposition to the emotions of having savings. When we need something, we often rationalize the purchase as necessary.  When we want something, we may tell ourselves we deserve the item or service. Later we may question our true need for the purchase that can create emotions of buyer’s remorse. That’s the issue in a nutshell but we all know it is not simple.

One of my favorite ways to minimize buyer’s remorse is to set aside monthly savings for discretionary expenditures.  Of course, this strategy requires discipline to not overspend the budgeted amount … creating greater remorse!

Happy spending!
